Explore Some Great Izakaya-Inspired Dining in Manly

4 Sep, 2025

When you are looking for the perfect spot to unwind after a long day, nothing beats the buzz of an izakaya inspired restaurant. Lucky for you, Bonsai by 4 Pines is right here.

We have all the things people love most about izakaya dining: a relaxed and social atmosphere, an ever-changing menu of share plates, and a drinks menu that keeps the conversation flowing. Ours comes with a modern twist and a craft brewery pedigree.

It is the perfect setup for catching up with friends, starting a big night, or just enjoying great food without taking yourself too seriously. In our humble opinion, this is the best way to eat.

What Makes an Izakaya Inspired Experience

A traditional izakaya in Japan is part pub, part restaurant, and part "the night goes where you let it”. We have taken that idea, kept the fun and flavour, and added a few Australian twists along with our classic 4 Pines beers lined up on tap.

Our focus is simple: bringing people together. That means sharing plates that keep hitting the table, drinks that pair perfectly, and an atmosphere that says, "stay as long as you like."

Atmosphere: Where Tradition Meets Pull Up a Chair

We have kept some of the traditional touches such as warm lighting, timber accents, paper lanterns, and handwritten specials. We have paired them with our own relaxed coastal Australian energy. You might find yourself perched at the bar watching skewers sizzle, tucked into a booth with friends, or catching the breeze in our outdoor space.

It’s cosy enough for date night, lively enough for group catch ups, and the kind of place where ordering another round just makes sense.

Menu: Built for Sharing and Reordering

We have taken inspiration from Japanese izakaya classics like yakitori skewers, karaage fried chicken, gyoza, and fresh seafood. Then we give them a 4 Pines spin. That means seasonal ingredients, creative twists, and the kind of dishes that make you say, "We should get another one of these."

Everything is designed to be shared. Although no one is going to stop you from keeping the karaage to yourself.

Drinks Menu

Traditional izakayas lean into sake, shochu, and Japanese beer. We do that and bring our own award winning craft beers to the party. That means you can match your skewers with a crisp Japanese lager, a hazy IPA, or whatever seasonal release is pouring that week.

Prefer cocktails? We have Japanese inspired mixes like a yuzu highball alongside classics done right. There are also non-alcoholic options so everyone can join the toast.

Warm light, good music, happy chatter, and plates hitting the table. It is the kind of place you come for just a bite and end up closing out.

Location You Do Not Have to Map Quest

We’re easy to find: close to public transport, with parking nearby, and just a ferry ride away with direct access to and from Sydney CBD. In other words, no excuses not to visit.

Why Bonsai Izakaya by 4 Pines Is a Must

We are not just serving great Japanese inspired food. We are pairing it with the craft beers and delicious cocktails that we are famous for and a relaxed vibe that makes you feel like a regular even on your first visit.

Our menu changes with the seasons, our taps rotate with fresh brews, and our team keeps the mood just right. Whether you are here for skewers and lager, cocktails and snacks, or a full shared feast, you will leave happy and maybe plan your next visit before you have even left.

So next time you search for "best izakaya near me," skip the list and head straight to Bonsai. We’ll save you a seat.
